What is it?
Breakout board for Teensy 4.1. Meant to be used with screw terminals, but you could also use header pins or solder directly to it if you so prefer.
Why did you make it?
After making an arcade button synth with the Teensy 4.1 using perfboard, I decided it would be much easier to have a ready-to-go breakout board for the Teensy for this or other purposes. While I have not yet made a second synth, I did use it recently for a Teensy-based animatronic cardboard cutout that is inspired by the Las Vegas "Vegas Vic" cowboy statue.
What makes it special?
It breaks out 30 IO pins from the Teensy 4.1, plus several pins for +5V, +3.3V, and GND. Broken out pins DO NOT interfere with the Teensy Audio Shield. If you choose to use it for a single-octave synth as was the original intention, black and white keys are labeled that line up with my code listed here. Labels are also provided that correspond to the Arduino-style numbering.
BUT THAT'S NOT ALL! The J10 pinout and surrounding traces/pads are set up to accept a L7805 voltage regulator or similar so that you can use a 9V line-in with a 9V battery as a backup as shown below. This is untested as of now, but this presents a ton of possibilities. In my cardboard cutout, I simply ran +5V and GND to what would have been the L7805's regulator output and added a 2200uF cap at the output (C1) to even out voltage spikes.

Bottom line, it's an extremely versatile Teensy 4.1 breakout board, especially when you're using the Audio shield. Also, the board's footprint is fairly large, giving you room to work. Finally, it's purple, which I hear is in style among PCB fashionistas.
What it doesn't include
This does not come with a Teensy 4.1, Teensy Audio Shield, or other power components. It's simply a board. You can order screw terminals as an option here, or just get them on Amazon or AliExpress if you can wait.
The above Amazon links are affiliate, so I theoretically get several pennies if you buy via the links there.
