UPDI Standalone / Mass Production Programmer for Microchip AVR, ATtiny & ATmega Devices


The UPDI Standalone Programmer is designed for programming modern AVR microcontrollers quickly and easily. It supports ATtiny 0-series, 1-series, and 2-series devices, as well as AVR DA, AVR DB, AVR DD, and ATmega 0-series MCUs.


Simply load your HEX files and configure the programmer using a terminal program (TeraTerm is recommended). Once configured, the programmer operates completely standalone—no computer is required for programming.

Ideal for Mass Production Programming

The UPDI Standalone Programmer is perfect for:

The programmer can Program and Verify:

  1. Flash Memory
  2. EEPROM
  3. Fuses
  4. User Row

Each of these operations can be individually enabled or disabled through the configuration settings.


Fast Bootloader Programming

Programming bootloaders into brand-new devices is especially convenient. Simply load the bootloader HEX file, configure the required fuse settings, and store the data in the programmer's internal memory. The programmer can then repeatedly program identical devices in just a few seconds without requiring a computer.


Simple UPDI Connection

Programming is performed through the single-wire UPDI interface using only three connections:

  1. VCC
  2. GND
  3. UPDI

A programming cable is included.


Standalone Operation

There is a growing need for an affordable standalone programmer that supports the UPDI protocol. Unlike traditional programming solutions, there is no need to install large, slow, and resource-hungry windows application just to program your microcontroller. This programmer is fast, reliable, and simple to use.


A computer is only required during initial setup or whenever you want to change the stored HEX files or configuration. The programmer is designed to work with TeraTerm, a simple and free terminal program. After setup, the programmer operates from any USB power source or USB port. It can:

  1. Supply 3.3V or 5V power to the target device, or
  2. Program a self-powered target operating from 1.8V to 5V

Note: The programmer cannot operate from the target's power supply.


All programming data—including Flash, EEPROM, User Row, Fuse settings, and Lock Bits—is stored in the programmer's internal memory until you choose to replace it.

Standalone mode is enabled simply by installing jumper J1. It couldn't be easier. Please watch the video here.
